I read the Ananzi Boys a couple months ago, Stardust last week, and now I've borrowed Coraline and Odd and the Frost Giants from my library. I am on a Neil Gaiman kick. I really love the characters that he creates and the subtlety of his writing.
I don't, however, like explicit sexual content in books for teens (Stardust).
Looking forward to the two I have out now- MG rather than teen. :)

Book Trailer Contest
Long time no post! My husband, baby and I are moving back to Kentucky, so life has been chaos, and I haven't done much reading at all! But I want to post this book trailer contest because I think it is an awesome idea. Win $1,000 for your library?! Heck yes!

In the Forests of the Night by Kersten Hamilton
I got my hands on the arc for In the Forests of the Night, and I devoured it! First I’ll say that the cover is a treat, and the feast gets better and better as you read. ☺
Here's the short review I put on Goodreads:
“Set your sails upon the mighty winds of May…Set your sails upon the hope of June”…
When Aiden sang this song for Teagan I got goosebumps and shivers. And I kicked my feet and giggled when Teagan and Finn… well, you’ll have to wait and read it for yourself.
In the Forests of the Night slips inside you and plays a tone that hums in perfect pitch... you know, that feeling. When you reach the last line on the last page and you shout inarticulately and throw the book from you, but you’re smiling because you can still feel the hum.
And when you put the book on the shelf… you thank goodness there’s going to be another one!!!!
And here's a longer review:
One of the things I enjoyed so much about Tyger Tyger was the cast of characters, and in In the Forests of the Night we not only get more of the people we love (Finn), we meet great new characters.
The romance between Finn and Tea was sweet-sigh worthy in book one. In book two it ramps up to butterflies-in-the-stomach, kicking-your-heels-and-giggling worthy! And there’s at least one romance on the side.
Finn says in the last chapter of Tyger, “You can stumble down that road, pretending you can’t help it. You can curl up and die of regret and sorrow for what you’ve done. Or you can get up and fight, even though the battle may be lost.” In In the Forests of the Night we get to see Tea battle this out.
There are lots of laugh out loud moments that I read over and over. ☺
If you can get your hands on an arc, do it! If you have to wait until it is released in November… it’s worth the wait.

The Amethyst Road by Louise Spiegler
I really love this book. I just read it again, for the love of it. The story is strong, and flows well, and resolves in a satisfying way (I love it when a book *satisfies* that story-hunger). The characters are believable and likeable.
I wasn't sure if I would enjoy it when I saw the cover, and even for the first several pages but I am so, so glad that I read it the first time. And the second.
This is one of those books that stays with you forever, and little things in life bring it to mind, and it makes you stonger and braver.

Amelia Peabody Mysteries- All of them
I am now on the sixth Amelia Peabody Mystery by Elizabeth Peters. These books are so awesome! The plots are a little shaky, but I don't read them for the plots, I read them for the characters- who are superb! Pick up the first book if you've never read this series- you won't regret it.

Crocodile on the Sandbank by Elizabeth Peters
I was hooked by this amazing writing before I had finished the first paragraph. The rest of the book was a delight, and I finished it very quickly, and am now reading the next in the series. What is so excellent about the Amelia Peabody mysteries is the character development and the hilarious dialogue. The story was pretty far-fetched, but fun. :)

Agatha H. and the Airship City by Phil and Kaja Foglio
I love this cover. My opinion on this book is: read the webcomic at girlgeniusonline.com. Then, if, like me, you just can't get enough pick up the novel. Inside, you'll get just a couple bits of information more than the comic gives, and it will hold you over for a couple days while you wait anxiously for the next page to be published online. ;) One thing I did really like about the novel is that the jager monsters get extra attention, and they are my favorite part of the Girl Genius world.
